Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's the Caffe Mobile, careering through the streets of Cambridge to get to it's pitch at the All Saints Garden, Trinity Street. In prime position, Ben Jones, the owner has set up his mobile coffee stall to great effect. And it's clear this is one business idea that's going to flourish. Can you see yourself with a whole fleet?, I ask. Can you see yourself as the Coffee Man of Cambridge? 'Yeah, definitley', he says. So how did it come about?
Well Ben is a qualified barista , which means he really knows his coffee and most important of all, how to make that perfect cup of espresso. Stints at Cambridge branches of Starbucks and Costa taught him a thing or two until that fateful day when he discovered a Caffe Mobile in London. After a chat with the vendors the seed of the idea was sewn. 'They told me you couldn't go wrong', he says, so he searched the internet for information on how to buy a Caffe Mobile and things grew from there.

Back

If you've not seen it yet, a Caffe Mobile is pretty much a tiny red, white and green van on a 50cc 3-wheeled Piaggio Vespa moped. With room for a shiny steaming espresso machine in the back and just enough space for the stock to get through the day, these machines are more commonplace in Italy as classic delivery vehicles for stuff like bread and fish. In Cambridge Ben's first wagon certainly adds a bit of character to it's present pitch, and with dead low prices, it's clearly a welcome contribution to the league of takeaways. And the coffee? Well it's delicious. Made by the Algerian Coffee Co. from a mixture of Brazilian and African beans this variety, says Ben, is the best he could get hold of. It's his mission to make the perfect cup of coffee each time.
